Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program allows individuals to allocate their tax dollars directly to support education. Through this program, donors can choose to support either K-12 Scholarship Organizations or Educational Improvement Organizations (EIOs), both of which are certified by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
K-12 Scholarship Organizations
- Purpose: These organizations provide need-based scholarships for students attending Pennsylvania’s private and independent K-12 schools. By directing EITC contributions to these organizations, donors can help provide educational access and opportunities for students who might otherwise be unable to attend a private school.
- Impact: Donors who contribute to K-12 Scholarship Organizations help reduce the financial barriers to quality education, empowering students and families with more school choice.

Educational Improvement Organizations (EIOs)
- Purpose: EIOs are Pennsylvania-approved nonprofits that enhance public education by funding innovative programs outside the standard curriculum, benefiting students in both public and private schools. Contributions to EIOs can fund diverse educational initiatives, including arts programs, STEM activities, and experiential learning opportunities that go beyond traditional classroom instruction.
- Impact: Through EITC contributions to EIOs, donors can support programs that foster educational enrichment and creativity, expanding learning experiences for students across the state.
- There are nearly 900 registered EIOs with the Commonwealth. Find the list of current Educational Improvement Organizations here.
How to Give
Individuals interested in supporting education can select either type of organization for their EITC contributions. By contributing, they not only impact the future of Pennsylvania’s students but also benefit from tax credits, making philanthropy a rewarding option to direct tax dollars where they make a difference.
